The hydro profile is built to get down. A slim body carries less water resistance, so it cuts through current and reaches bottom in a fraction of the time a wide fluttering jig takes — which matters enormously when you are fishing 200 to 400 feet on a Gulf ledge and the drift is moving you off the number.

Every second a jig spends falling sideways out of the strike zone is wasted, and on a deep drop you only get a handful of passes over the spot.

The fast profile also lets you fish it aggressively. Speed jigging — a hard high-speed retrieve straight up through the column — triggers amberjack, tuna, kingfish and big jacks in a way a slow flutter will not. Rig assist hooks top and bottom and hold on.
